Self-choreographed solo performed at Hub Seventeen NYC, July 2019

In the first section, Neil Hilborn discusses the internal conflict and neuroses of his own existence, however impermanent, imperfect, uncertain. As his words fade, I allow the residue of the spoken word to permeate from my body through improvisation. I embody his words, tone, energy, in a series of bound and intricate forms.

The last portion of this solo is interactive. I share index cards with different personal narratives, explaining that this is what was going through my head while I was moving: my own conflict, neuroses of existence. After sharing these narratives, I ask volunteers to read select cards however they choose as I improvise, in order to share my internal impressions with the audience. It's an ongoing conversation between their response to me, my response to them, and my initial response to the words written on the cards.

The music is intended to serve as a white noise, so that the audience has a moment to let the message of the spoken word sink in, and see how the physical form of my improvisation reflects that.
